Here’s a summary of the 2011 mission and more information on LW and Arunotai/Nong Ook. Budget & How Funds were Spent at LKW in 20102011 Loi Kaw Wan Burmese Orphan Project The MMC Southeast Asia Mission ReportThe Schools of Hope in Arunotai/Nong Ook.Next year Dr. Myron and Elaine Semkuley will visit this new village. They will meet some very inspiring Burmese people who are working to help children get an education. The founders are a monk – Pramaha Virote Visutho & a teacher Noon Hkurh and Ms. Inger-Lise. Here’s some information from their website: Schools of Hope is a Thai non-profit organization established in 2008. Its mission is to set up schools along the Thai/Burmese border to offer free basic education and proper assistance to disadvantaged children of displaced and migrant families from Shan State. The first school opened in May 2009 in Arunotai/Nong Ook village, Chiang Mai province. Nong Ook is a small border town along a porous, unmarked border with Burma, where people continue to flee across the border to escape harsh conditions. Today we provide more than 50 children (aged from 4 to 17 years) with learning materials, clothes, three healthy meals per day, healthcare and give a shelter to orphans and abandoned children. Students at Schools of Hope (grade 1 to 4) learn to read and write Thai, Shan and English and get basic knowledge in mathematics, geography, history, science and local culture. We also help the children to develop social skills and offer them the possibility to follow vocational training (farming projects, environmental activities, etc.). Where to Send Your Donation.Donations to support the Burmese orphans can be sent directly to MMC or to my post office box to my attention. Be sure to address your cheque to MMC and write on the memo line that the funds be directed to the Burmese Orphans’ Fund.
