With all of the tremendous success that the Calgary market is experiencing, it underscores the need to review our business and marketing strategies for fit in the current and future market place. The indomitable power of a business strategy and how it differentiates our businesses from competitors and sustains us year after year is one of the keys to business success. It is true that supply and demand, and, industry trends determine much of our success, but, it's the business strategy over the long term that insures for our success. A business strategy aligned with a carefully crafted marketing strategy allows us to increase and accelerate our growth and profitability.

There is an urban legend that tells of the irreversible impact of writing down goals. A Harvard graduating class was interviewed 10 years after graduation. 83% of the graduates had no goals at the time of graduation. (Just imagine!) 14% had defined and specific goals and their income increased by 3 times the graduates who had no goals. For the 3% who had defined and specific goals and had also written down their goals, their income had increased by 10 times over and above the graduates who had no goals! There is tremendous power in writing down your goals and objectives in your annual operating plan!

In addition to the power that comes from writing goals and objectives, is aligning the marketing strategy with the business strategy.
